Post subject:  Er... now what? Noobie question....

Hi, I've run my first attempt at an install of Knoppmyth on a rig I've built. I'm using the R5A16 build. I followed through the installation... it seemed to install properly, and as I decided to go with the 'experimental' version it recognised the Nova-T card.

But, I can't get it to find any channels.

I'm probably missing something blindingly obvious, but what do I do.I've looked at the 'WinTv Nova -T Setupguide' posted by parkinpants, but as I say, where do I start.

Unfortunately I know so little about Linux, I don't know even where to start with entering code to make sure I get it right.

Any BASIC help on how I get this sorted?

Thanks

Ok, basically you need to quit out of mythtv and open up a terminal. Keep hitting escape until it asks if you want to quit, select yes!

Right click on the background and it should open up a small menu. Navigate through this until you find the program "Bash" (i cant quite remember where it is, but its not too hard to find.)

This should open up a basic window where you can type commands in.

To do some of the commands in the guide you need to be the user "root" (super user, linux equivalent of administrator). To change to root, just type in: su

it will then ask you for the password. After you've typed it in, follow parkinpant's guide :)

Post back here if you need some more basic help :) prolly best to post problems with the guide in that thread.

Once you exit the front end you can just hit Alt-X to get a new xterm with a shell session.

thanks for your replies... been meaning do do so for a few days, but i#ve been kinda busy.
The Knoppmyth box unfortuntely isn't connected to the net, so can't grab the listings etc. that way. Something I will get around to eventually, once I've made this a front end /backend system.

I have made some progress, but I am still struggling a bit. But I am getting a better idea of Linux :D

I read the post about grabbing tv lisintings from the broadcast, which for the time being is certainly the way I want to go.

I'll probably be back askng more dumb questions soon.

Thanks for taking the time!
