Post subject:  A few MythGame questions

1.What is the program directory for ZSNES (to enter in the "Game Player" thingy)?
2.How do I get xMAME (w/ -fullscreen on) to scale the image to fit the screen (this may be displaying it at the native resolution?) like in MAME32's full screen mode?
3.How do I set up a joypad?
4.Is there any way to see the game name in xMAME or am I stuck w/ the romset name?

Thanks,
-David

1./usr/bin/zsnes
2.-fullscreen
3.More details would be helpful... What joypads do you have? Do there work with Linux? Did you run the jstest program to test them? If they work, they should just work w/ xmame (I personally don't use any other emu).
4.Unfortunately, not at the moment.

Excellent.

2.-fullscreen

I tried that earlier, and it sticks the game right in the middle of the screen w/ black on all 4 sides. Any way to stretch it?

It works fine w/ ZSNES, I just need to know how to configure the buttons for xmame.

Any chance of it appearing in a future version? And/or do you suggest any frontends?

Thanks for your help and patience.

EDIT:
Re: #3:

Found the xMAME doc at via the power of Google, w/ the info I needed:

Quote:
3.29. xmame.SDL / fullscreen has a large border around the game.
If the game runs in fullscreen but occupies only a small area in the center of the screen, then your xserver
does not have access to low resolutions (320x240, 400x300, and 512x384, for instance). In the case of
SDL, the window will be in the resolution of closest matching resolution that SDL can switch to for full
screen display.
In this case, you have to add "Modelines" for these resolutions in your XF86config file and add these
resolutions to the resolutions list of your display somewhere in your XF86config file (you know, the list
of resolutions you can switch to using ctrl-+).
You should find modelines that works with most graphic cards in the xmame contrib subdirectory.
If you don’t want to alter your XF86config file, another solution is to run xmame.x11 with the "-scale 2"
argument. In this case, the emulator will use 640x480 instead of 320x240, 800x600 instead of 400x300,
etc. But I don’t recommend it. The scaling uses cpu and the games will run more slowly.
However, if your cpu is fast enough, a better option is to use the effects, e.g., ”-ef 1”. This introduces
advanced render methods to create a nicer looking effect than the simple scaling. On the website you can
see screenshots (http://x.mame.net/gamescreenshots.html) of the different effects.

"-scale 2" works, but in some games (so far it seems to be Capcom and older Namco games like Frogger, Pac Man series, etc), the picture jitters. Any way around that, or would I have to create modelines since it would probably give me the best support, or what?

The rest, I still need help with, too. :)

With the recent change in MythGame, you probably have to specify the joystick type. xmame --help will give you all the options.

Adding
Code:
-joytype 1
to the xMAME command worked.

Now, how do I fix my flicker problem? :)
