Post subject:  New install - Watch TV Channel & PIDS problem

I have a new install of MythTV and can not get Watch TV to work (I have not tried anything else, I thought that I would start here). I belive that I have 2 probems here we will take them 1 at a time.

The log file indicates that it can not find channel:

2005-11-03 21:21:39.715 Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
2005-11-03 21:21:39.739 DVB#0 DVB SI Table Parser Started
2005-11-03 21:21:39.740 DVB#0 Using DVB card 0, with frontend pcHDTV HD3000 HDTV.
2005-11-03 21:21:39.746 DVB#0 ERROR - Unable to find channel in database.
2005-11-03 21:21:39.747 DVB#0 ERROR - Failed to get channel options for channel .
2005-11-03 21:21:39.747 DVB#0 Recorder: Card opened successfully (using TS mode).

I have tried setting the channel in the backend setup to 3, 31, 3.1 with no luck (Over the air HDTV Channel 3, subchannel 1). Does anyeone know what table and column that mythTv is looking in?

I have values in table "channel" that I belive were inserted when I ran FULL SEARCH from the backend setup. I do NOT have any data in the dvb_channel table. I this right?

Secondly, looking further in the log, I see this error. What are PIDS? and what sets them? I do not have any data in the dvb_pids table. Where do those get generated from?

2005-11-03 21:21:39.749 DVB#0 ERROR - No PIDS set, please correct your channel setup.
2005-11-03 21:21:40.752 DVB#0 WARNING - No data from card in 1 second.
2005-11-03 21:21:41.753 DVB#0 WARNING - No data from card in 1 second.
2005-11-03 21:21:42.754 DVB#0 WARNING - No data from card in 1 second.

Thanks for your help.

Yes. dvb_channel is quite old. More recent versions of MythTV actually delete it. The data from this is now in dtv_multiplex.

PIDs (Programme IDs) identify the various audio/video channels in the received DVB (or ATSC) data. The Transport Stream (TS) is all the data received at a particular tuned frequency. A Programme Stream (PS) is a filtered set of channels (2 or 3 PIDs) from the TS.

dvb_pids is also an old table. It should be empty. When you scanned for channels in mythtv-setup, it should have found channels, and inserted PIDs for those channels. In recent versions of MythTV, the PIDs are stored in the channel or dtv_multiplex tables (I can't remember which).

My advice would be to scan again (after deleting all the channel stuff when you start mythtv-setup) and check the above mentioned tables.

Or upgrade to the most recent SVN version of MythTV.

Thanks Nigel,

I wiped all my settings and started over.

I also found this post which I used to get me over the PID problem.
