Post subject: | channel change script question |
Hi folks, I succesfully got my ir blaster (purchased here: http://www.irblaster.info/) working with R5A22 by following this guide here: http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/mythtv-info/MythTV_DISH_IR_LED_TX_via_Modified_LIRC.html. I can now control my cable box from the console by running my change_chan.sh script. Very Exciting! ![]() Here's my dilemma - I would like to be able to run this script when changing to only SOME channels, but not all, as I have a few OTA channels that don't come through my cable box (though everything comes through my single coax cable attached to input Tuner0). Thus, my PVR500 tunes to either the frequencies of those few OTA channels, or if I want to watch the cable channels, I tune it to the frequency of the cable box. As I understand it, if I put the path to my change_chan.sh in the MythTV-Setup, then this will be used for all channels, and I won't be able to get the OTA channels anymore becuase the PVR500 will be tuned to the cable box. So, I'd like to associate the script just with the cable channels, even though all channels are coming in on Tuner0. That way the PVR500 can tune to the cable box frequency, and the IR Blaster will set the channel on the cable box appropriately. Is this possible? Thanks! Lev. |

You need to define two different video sources, one with, one without, and associate them with the appropriate connection. |

Thanks, tjc - I got that kind ofworking by creating a second video source ("CABLE") associated with the tuner, and setting up a new channel on that video source. By switching to that channel, MythTV successfully used the IR Blaster to control the cable box. However, I'm not sure what to put in the "Preset Tuner to channel:" box in the source/input association. I put in 3 as suggested, but do I have to create a new channel 3 on that video source "CABLE"? If so, what goes in the Frequency box - 3, or the actual kHz frequency (503250 in my case) that the cable box transmits on? Sorry if I'm being dense ![]() Lev. |

You know how for many old VCRs you had to set your TV to a certain channel and the VCR would re-encode the output with a carrier appropriate for that channel? This is for cable boxes that need a similar setup, where the TV is tuned to a fixed channel and the cable box re-broadcasts the signal on that channel. If your TV is hooked up to the cable box via S-Video or composite video instead you probably don't need this. However your channel changing script may need to force the TV to switch to the appropriate input instead in that case... |

That's what I figured - setting the "Preset Tuner to channel:" to the channel that the cable box broadcasts on through the coax. But do I have to create this channel in the "Channel Setup", and if so, should it use the same input source that uses the change_chan.sh script or the one that doesn't? And what should its frequency be set to - the actual frequency in kHz (which I know to be 503250 khz)? I've tried it both ways and it doesn't seem to work. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. edit: It just dawned on me what the problem must be: I have the "Cable" source associated with Tuner1 while the "Antenna" is associated with Tuner0, but my card only has Tuner0. Is there a way to get Tuner0 to use both sources? Lev. |

Boy, I'm just not having any luck with this. ![]() Is there no way to just have MythTV call a script when it sets a channel, but still tune to a particular kHz freqeuency for that channel? It seems like there must be some way to do that. Anyone? Thanks, Lev. |
