Post subject: | R5A26 - some myth plugins give 'illegal instruction' on epia |
Hi, mythtv is running on via epia C3 board with pvr-350. The mythbrowser plugin works too. But mythweather, mythdvd and mythvideo give an 'illegal instruction'. They all seem to be from the same mythplugins paket, so this is confusing. Also the output of the 'file' command does not help, as it will always say intel 386. Someone mentioned a dialog after initial installation that would ask for platform (i586 vs i686) that would consecutively lead to appropriate download. This I cannot remember. Maybe that is because at the time of installation the pvr card was not yet in the computer? I would prefer to not compile myself - it is a slow epia system after all. How and from which source can I download suitable i586 debian package of the plugins? At the moment aptitude will offer only one choice for mythplugins independent of cpu type. Any pointers welcome. Thanks, Juergen |

i586 debs are on the system (/usr/src/mythtv/i586). Unless you selected i686, i586 is the default. |

Post subject: | not better after reinstall |
ok, so I reinstalled the mythplugins for i586. No luck. All the installed mythtv debs are of 0.18.2-svn2-km-i586. Still, the backend works, frontend ok, mythtv ok, mythbrowser ok, but mythvideo, mythweather give 'illegal instruction'. The C3 cpu is a 'samuel 2', which should be true i586 compatible. Any more hints how to hunt this down? |

For now I do use /usr/bin/mythtv to play the mpeg2 videos. This will output to the attached tv via the pvr-350 which is what I want. Problems with other menus remain unsolved. |

The one difference I found is that C3 does not support SSE extension. That may be the culprit. Any idea how to find out apart from doing a complete recompile cycle? |

I have the same problem also with mythgallery. Once I want to navigate into a folder I get an illegal instruction. Recompiling only the mythgallery plugin (choosing -arch=c3) did not help. Any news on that? There must be some Epia users here... Regards, Goldstein |

I fear some of the libraries involved like libmyth or qt might be the culprit. So maybe getting the imedia distribution that claims to support via c3 might be a good choice. |

So maybe getting the imedia distribution that claims to support via c3 might be a good choice. I tried it and no such luck. It kept on restarting my system over and over again. The MytTV iMedia only has the i586 choice, could not select the C3 I myself had to recompile the gallery and videomanager to get things working on my EPIA V. The real iMedia seemed to support a C3 but thats not available for download. Regards Moob |
