Post subject: | Post Upgrade 16 --> 26: Failed to init MythContext |
Hi there. I waited a month, then decided to upgrade rom R5a16 to R5a26. Because I have LVM (250GB + 300GB) I was careful to following instructions here: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... adeWithLVM Everything seemed to be working, but then, as the setup begins to run, it boots you out. Error: Failed to init MythContext, exiting. Does this mean the backend isn't running? I restarted the backend then tried again to no avail. Perhaps some corruption in my database? How should I best proceed? Thanks much for your time. |

TPIL(B?), the MythContext class is the first thing that is initialised when the frontend starts up. It depends on things like a database connection, theme files, access to the mythtv library, enough memory, et c. Could you try this in an xterm and tell us what is reported: Code: mythfrontend -v all

Thank you for your response and help. I've truncated the very long output, and if you need more of it please let me know. According to 'top': 3947 root 24 0 2688 1328 1076 S 0.0 .03 0:00.01 mysqld_safe 3983 mysql 11 -5 67556 17m 2976 S 0.0 3.4 0:18.95 mysqld so it does appear to be running. Thanks for your input. |

Did you accidentally or intentionally change the IP address or hostname during your upgrade? |

The IP, router, DNS and machine name settings are all the same as before. Thanks for your help. |

Have you tried running mythtv-setup? |

Yes, and the result is the same. Thanks for your ideas. Assuming there's some corruption that mimics the scenario in which I'd changed the machine's name or IP, what would be the further steps to take? Thanks again. |

Check mysql.txt and ensure the information is valid. |

I see what you mean. Yes, that was a problem. During the new setup, I'd gotten a prompt requesting a set a good password for mysql, and so I gave it a different one. I corrected /home/mythtv/.mythtv/mysql.txt rebooted, then ran mythtv-setup. Same result. Runing mythfrontend -v all results with the same errors. Should I assume that the problem stemmed from entering a new mysql password? If so, is the best course to redo the upgrade and this time use the old password? Thanks to y'all.[/code] |

Asked for a mysql password during setup?! KnoppMyth has never asked for a mysql password. You must mean password for MythWeb? Check /usr/share/mythtv/mysql.txt. |

In that file, it simply has: DBHostName=localhost DBUserName=mythtv DBName=mythconverg I guess I could be wrong, but I felt certain that is what asked for this password. Since setting the txt file with both passwords, didn't work what is twhe best way for me to proceed? Thanks. |

That fiel should contain more information.... There is a lot of text that is commented. But the most important thing that you are missing is: DBPassword=mythtv |

I'm sorry, you're correct. At the very end is the password, and I changed it and rebooted. Unfortunately, I get the same result and the same output from mythfrontend -v all. |
