Post subject:  Lxmsuite ends listing service

I got an email today that LxmSuite is suspending their listing service for MythTv. They have operated the service at a loss for the last 8 months due to insufficient subscribers.

The message said something about retooling for a commercial rollout, but I don't know how viable that is if they couldn't even get folks to subscribe at their discount price.

I'm a little disappointed that Myth users couldn't come together to support this effort, which was aimed at providing a stable listing service as well as kicking back development money to the myth devs. But it's always hard for any paid service to compete with "free".

I was just wondering today how they were doing; guess that answers it.

My feeling has always been that LxMSuite wasn't significantly different/better for the money than what people were already getting. The only advantage to the listings were not having to take the survey--they were the exact same Zap2It listings, if I'm not mistaken. I was not overwhelmed by the quality or quantity of the themes, and never got a good sense that the "bounty" system was very well worked out or would lead to a real ability to finance focused development.

Their web site never filled me with confidence to invest my money, either -- there are still typos like "recommendedations" on the main page. That doesn't cut it for a commercial venture.

I'm happy to pay for solutions that provide more value than free options. I just never saw LxMSuite as providing that much more value.

I too was willing to pay to support this effort and did. Although, I did use the listings for a while, I went in and check my current config when I got the email from them, and found that I have not been using their listings. I guess that is good, since I don't have to change anything now, but it is sad to see this concept go. I was never happy with the themes they created, and there was really very little to suggest that they were actually doing anything greater. But it was worth supporting for the short time I guess. I hope to see some of the refund since I did not get but a few months of the service.
