Hi I'm running a PIII 1 ghz 128 ram ATI Rage something . . video card Asus TV FM Card 19' BenQ LCD I set-up everything per instructions, downloaded the listings, ran mythfilldatabase (the first automatic attempt failed). When I select watch TV here's what happens: 1) Blackness 2) A brief flash of blue(?) 3) Blackness 4) Text on upper-left hand corner "1: Television " 5) Fade to black Nothing else. I can escape back to the main myth screen, so its not frozen. I looked at the backend logs, there's an error indicated. Here's what I get: 2006-01-13 01:24:33.454 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Playback 2006-01-13 01:24:33.464 adding: mythtv as a client (events: 0) 2006-01-13 01:24:33.487 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Playback 2006-01-13 01:24:33.506 adding: mythtv as a client (events: 0) 2006-01-13 01:24:33.519 adding mythtv as a remote ringbuffer 2006-01-13 01:24:33.542 Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV strange error flushing buffer ... I also looked at the /home/mythtv/.xsession-errors log I got two errors repeatedly: taking too long to be allowed to read .. Waited too long for ringbuffer pause .. Thanks for reading this and hopefully someone will know what the matter is, or point me in the right direction PS: One more thing, with mythtv running (but not viewing anything) I only have 36 megs of RAM free. Could this be causing the problem? [edit: sp error] |

Does your video card support Xv? Are you using the ATi drivers? Perhaps you need to specific card and tuner type. |

Okay: The video card is an ATI rage 128 Pro 16 Mb card (model 63109). I downloaded the drivers but couldn't get the RPM to install as it required XFree86 to be installed. I've read that the rage 128 pro is widely supported in linux distributions. According to xvinfo my video card supports XV extensions The Capture Card is an Asus TV FM Card 7135 It has a phillips 7135 video decoder I can't really find anymore info on the capture card than that, the box and the card doesn't give any more model info. Thanks EDIT: When I got the xvinfo above I was not logged in as mythtv, I was just in fluxbox logged in as root. However when I logged in as mythtv and accessed the terminal within mythtv as root when I tried xvinfo it replied: "xvinfo: Unable to open display" |

I ran modprobe bttv and then dmesg It shows the card as the correct type and autodetected. So I don't think compatibility with linux is the problem |
