I changed the motherboard (VIA KT400 to a nForce2 Ultra) and my mediabox is more unstable as before.

So far, the frond end could crash sometimes. I could restart it with SSH.

Yesterday night, all my mediabox freezed. I was not able to access it with SSH. I had to do a hard reset.

This is what I got from syslog

Did you literally swap the motherboard and boot up? If so, you might want to consider doing an "upgrade" with the same version.

I made a fresh install with the new motherboard.

Did you run Memtest86+ for at least 8 hours to test the RAM?

Are you overclocking?

Is the CPU getting too hot?

When you change motherboards, it is not safe to assume that all will work as it did before. Retest everything as if you were building a new system from scratch, then run a benchmark program for a few hours to see if the system is stable.

Yes I did,
I ran memtest for about 10 hours. I got no errors.
Temperature of CPU is approx : 50-55°C
I'm not overclocking.

BIOS settings? IRQ sharing? Different PCI slot?

cesman : bios settings?
I have to look at the bios, I don't know them by heart.
How can I get the Irq list. I can't find the command.
Yes I tried another slot.

Disable PnP, perhaps set each PCI slot to it's own IRQ, etc. cat /proc/interrupts

I read the vcore of a sempron 2800+ should be 1.60V not 1.75V
Maybe it can be the cause?

I'm gonna try a fresh install and flash bios to see what happens.

When does your box die? Watch live tv? Recording? Random time?

Random time.
Backend can crash during:
Trying to export nuv file to DVD
Trying to record a movie

Frontend crashes when browsing sections.

Ok just to be sure it was stable I formatted the hard drive, I installed XP and I used Sisoft Sandra and OCCT (a little software to test stability for OC CPU, chipset and memory http://www.ocbase.com/) for 10 hours and I had no crashes.

I don't know linux, so I don't know if there is a software to test stability on it.

I do like to keep mythTv, but I'm desperate. I've fought with my box for 2 months now. I can't get it stable.

I will offer you the most common causes of freezing / lockup that I have come across with AMD boards:

C1 Halt Disconnect - a bios setting designed to save power. Unfortunately it sometimes tries to suspend activity while shows are playing. There has been a kernel fix that cesman has included in knoppmyth that resolves the issue for many but if there is a setting for it in your bios, turn it off as the kernel fix apparently doesn't work for everyone. If your bios, like mine, doesn't have the setting, you can use the athcool program to turn it off manually, but you have to do it on each boot.

Bad memory - Use memtest86+ to run an extended diagnostic, at least 8 hours. AMD chips have a habit of really pushing the memory so that CL3 chips that are perfectly fine for most applications sometimes get overwhelmed. This problem can often be overcome by slower (higher) memory settings in your bios. If you are buying memory make sure it is at least CL2.5 (It sounds as if you have done this already, but I include if for later searchers)

DMA problems - I don't know much about this one. It didn't apply to my motherboard or to most nforce boards, but further seaches on this may be fruitful for you.

PCI interrupt difficulties - sometimes these can be resolved by simply switching the slots you plug the cards into and other times by manually assigning interrupts as described above. It seems unlikely in your case that both motherboards would have the same difficulty.

Defective equipment. The only way to solve this problem is to swap out various components until you find the one causing the problem. This is expensive and made all that much more difficult by the intermitant nature of the problem. Often it has be under a heavy load for a significant length of time plus have one more unknown trigger to create the failure. The one I have heard most frequently in my search has been the power supply. This is more likely if your powersupply is 300W or below and older than 3-4 years.

I can't tell you if any of these apply to you. They are simply the most common problems I ran across in searching for solutions for my box. My problem ended up being the memory.
