So, I want to build a MythTV system. I also need a system to act as a sort of big storage server for my network. I'd like to take care of both of those things with one box, so, here's my question: can KnoppMyth, in addition to acting as a DVR, also be accessed via my network by my computers running Windows and be used as a backup for those computers' data?

Just like you would access recrdings on the KnoppMyth box from a MS-Windows box. Search the forums and the wiki for information on Samba and NFS.

Yes, it works well, as TJC said.
As a tip, if you install the "webmin" package, it's really easy to administer. It's got a module for XP file sharing.
It's under the "servers" tab.
Also, there is info in the WiKi on how to do it manually. And you can go the other way too - you can mount a windows share under a directory on the myth box. I have several of these. I've got my "pictures" directory on my windows box mounted under /myth/gallery/
Likewise with my music.

So it does! That explains why I couldn't find my notes from when I installed it...

Ok, this may be useful then. To get INTO webmin, use this URL:
(doctor for your ip or hostname - I have a host entry for "mythtv")

https://mythtv:10000/
root/<yourrootpassword>

Sometimes you have to re-scan for videos in the setup. But you probably messed up something with the mounts.
From a command-line window, make sure that you can see the files.
ex:
cd /myth/video/myxpserver
do you see the files?

cd /mnt/win1

works!

cd /mnt/win1/clips/ab2000

works!

I can see see the files

In myth i have /mnt/win1/clips/ab2000/ as path ... but there are
no videos.

Ideas ?
