Since I have asked this in other forums and not goten an answer yet, I guess I will try again.

I have a mythtv setup running on a nvidia graphics card via DVI to a 720p Samsung DLP. Knoppmyth RA522 was the install.

What I would like to do is have my Mythbox output native signals via DVI.

I know this means that I need modelines for
720x480i
720x480p
1280x720p (I have one that actually works well.)
1920x1080i

All of wich need to be for DVI output

Nextly I know that I would have to make some adjustments in the myth menus to output the differnet resolutions.

Plus I would need to set things like interlace and deinterlace right?

Could someone please tell me how to do this? Step by step would be awesome!

Like tell me some working modelines and how and where to add them.

I really need this information just layed out for me as weeks and weeks of searches have just let to more annoyance then progress. (Some of the people who chime int o help spend more time being nasty to you thne actually helping.)

Any help would be great.

The people that answer the majority of the posts around here answer in all the categories. Posting in multiple categories will not get you an answer more quickly, it will only get you some negative feedback.

I'm not sure if anyone here has posted that they have successfully gotten this to work. It is theoretically possible using xrandr and configuring mythtv, but that doesn't mean anyone here has applied all the technologies/tools available to actually have their mythtv box perform this yet.

If you're outputting in the native format of the video, then no, there will be no deinterlacing, you will simply be outputting decoded video stream.

Try searching the forums for ALL of the following "modeline ATSC 720 1080".

I find it unlikely that you have been actively looking for a solution to this for weeks. I frequently see similar posts, and they are (almost) always responded to by the various 'experts' that help us newbies.

there have been a few people claim success with this now. It is very easy to setup, however it seems that OTA 1080i is actually 1088 lines of vertical resolution, and MythTV only allows you to go up to 1080 in the setup, so you actually have to hack the code to get it working. If you search in the dtv section of the forum this very topic has been covered in fairly good detail in a couple of threads recently.

X, I found another way around the "1080 vs. 1088" problem you described that does not require tweaking the code. I set my default display resolution in the setup menu to 1920x1080. In the lower section where you configure specific display resolutions for specific recording resolutions, I simply don't list anything I want displayed in 1920x1080 so that myth will choose the default. This will result in the 1920x1088 recordings using the 1920x1080i modeline.

So under “Utilities/Setup -> Setup->appearance” you would see the following on my system:

Video mode settings (3rd screen): “Separate video modes for GUI and TV playback” is selected. The GUI display is configured as “GUI=1280x720; video output=1920x1080; rate=any; aspect=16x9”. I have filled in one row under “Overrides for specific video sizes”. The first row is “X=1280; Y=720; Output=1280x720; Rate=any; aspect=default”.

As you would expect, having the GUI's display at 720p works better than 1080i.

Thanks for the help so far. I should have some time tomorrow night to mess with this. Will report back with my findings.
