Is it my configuration, or is the playback quality from the xbox running xbmcmythtv much lower than playing back from a linux box?

I have 2 linux pc's that have beautiful playback quality, but my xbox is very blocky when playing back the same pre-recorded programs?

Is there anything I can do to help this out?

Without knowing how your Linux boxes are connected to your TVs, versus how your xbox is connected, or knowing what codec you're using to record, or what resolution, or what bitrate, or what playback settings you've got in MythTV vs xbmc, or seeing what you're describing as "blockiness" it's tough to say.

In other words, you need to post LOTS more details.

The TV is a ViewSonic 2750w (27" LCD). When connecting the PC linux based mythtv installations, lthe TV is using the VGA connector. When using the XBOX, it is using the standard 3 plug rca connection (yellow video, red/white audio).

As for Codecs: This I am not terribly sure of? I would guess it's just the default mpeg2 stream that the PVR 500 generates when capturinging tv streams is being used. No post processing is being done to the video stream. The "Live TV" recording profile is set to "minimum bitrate of 4000 and maximum of 8000. The "Default" profile is set to a minimum of 2200 and max of 4400. All resolutoins are set to 720x480. The playback in both xbmc and mythtv are set to deinterlace the video. I am not aware of any other settings for decoding quality in either mythtv of xmbc, so they are probably the default values.

There is a big quality difference between VGA and a composite signal. Connecting a xbox to an LCD monitor or LCD Tv will show the week signal. An xbox should only be connected to a plain old analog CRT TV.

Well there is an highdef pack available to the xbox to get a
better signal out of the xbox. It gives you a component signal. Not all games support HD, and I don't know how this cable works with XBMC. And you need component in on your TV.

XBMC supports it. however your source is still just CATV so there isnt much to notice. However there is not a obvious difference from live TV in my last post i have tips to make sure that you save everything in 720 that coudl be your problem.

I wasn't able to find a knoppmyth 50.1 and am kinda guessing that KnoppMyth 50.1 is the same as 5A30.1, can you verify this? Should the XBMCMYTHTV pulled from SF be from CVS or just the released version already for download?

Thanks again very much,

yes just get the newest Knoppymyth (50.2 now?) they shoudl be workign good.

Unless you get the knoppymyth project good. i would first download the stable (.zip rel) then when you figure it out go to the CVS. there isnt HUGE changes in the CVS the biggest change to the project will be when they get .19 all working it will most likely be the next stable release

You mean KnoppMyth R5A30.2 which is the most current publically released version.

Seriously, how hard is it to get the version right to avoid confusing people? :?
