Post subject:  Myth TV is keeping around recordings of everything I watch..

How do I make MythTV only keep recordings of shows that I tell it to record? Right now it is keeping around recordings of every live tv show that I watch. Every time I channel surf, I end up with 2 minute recordings. It is getting annoying to go into my recordings to delete these out of there all the time. I appreciate any help.

This is normal, as a matter of fact it's a recent enhancement. The short answer is, don't worry it's doing the right thing. There are settings down under the set up menu that will let you hide those and tune the already accelerated expiration. Search for "live TV" in recent posts for more details. ...

I like the [All Programs] not showing ringbuffer stuff, but it would be nice if I had a
[Live TV] group that had ringbuffer stuff in it and not have them show show in
[All Programs] -- Can this be done?

See the linked thread. It tells you exactly where to look for these settings.

In the DB, see the LiveTVInAllPrograms and AutoExpireLiveTVMaxAge values in the settings table.

bummer.. don't have a "LiveTv" group my "Watch Recordings"

tjc -- I think I'am missing something here.

LiveTVInAllPrograms and AutoExpireLiveTVMaxAge are both int's and both can be
modified easly from screen 4 of "playback". I don't think either is going to add that
group for me and have it populated.

I'll pruse mythconverge a bit more.. to see if I find it.. searching livetv and all I find are 2
the you mention. Xsecrects -- can I ask you a small favor. Pop into phpmyadmin
and search mythconverge for LiveTv -- Where else do you find it besides the 2 above in
settings - and what is its value?

thanks -- martin

The way it worked for me when I first installed was that when I went to watch recordings, it gave me the choice to either go to 'All Recordings' or 'Live TV'. Once you made that choice, you had to exit then come back in to change from one to the other.

I've now got it set to not ask me and just dump me in All Programs (don't anticipate wanting to look at Live TV much). The setting is called 'Always prompt for initial group filer' (TV/Playback)

thanks for tip! Once again you have got me on the right track.

It turns out to be a combination selections on that page of playback setting that
will give the results that I am looking for... where now "Default" will have everything
except livetv and "All Recordings" will have everything including livetv.. I can live that.

thank you.

There actually is a live TV group that it sets up automatically. Go to the watch recordings list and hit 'm' to bring up the recoding list menu. Select "change group filter". If you have any current live recordings there should be a special live tv group under the groups heading on the menu that shows up with all recordings, default group, and the categories.
