Post subject: | Issues with sound are the most common nuisance |
I keep reading posts concerning audio and many websites comment on it with the subject i've included. I think the main problems with this occur due to the fact that audio settings are included in (I think) three places. Probably the most difficult setting to experiment with is within mythtv-setup where you point your tv card to the correct dsp. This is also where you deal with sound issues relating to your tv card. The next problem comes with alsamixer. This is actually not so much of a nuisance since you can play with alsamixer (in a ctrl-alt-F1) while having mythtv capture video+sound in the background. This allows you to correctly pick the correct channel to capture and a good volume for minimizing sound distortion. And the final place to tweak audio (that I can think of at the moment) is within the recording profiles. Here you can set the bitrate and volume that mythtv uses. So, the problem with this setup is that all these settings are inter-related yet cannot be editted within the same screen. This undoubtedly leads to increased setup errors and user confusion. I think it may be helpful to include an option in mythfrontend or mythtv-setup where all audio settings are available. This may greatly ease setup. Does anyone agree? I have no idea how to do this myself, but if anyone would like to do this, i'll definately give input. Otherwise, at least Ive had a chance to vent. But now my dual tuner mythtv box is up and I couldnt be happier. |
