I have heard bits and pieces from the desktop linux summit that Linspire will open source click-n-run. Also there are rumors that it will be integrated with Ubuntu.
If this is the case and knoppmyth moves to ubuntu, wouldn't that be awesome for knoppmyth? Not all of click-n-run but being able to legally buy a license for windows codecs, mp3 AND most importantly a DVD license? We would finally be able to play ALL mainstream DVD's.
What say you?

Maybe if you would include some details about what click-n-run is and does we could make more intresting comments about this new information.

Well, I don't think CnR means anything to MythTV. In terms of what Freespire has to offer for the community however, that could be interesting. The possibility of adding legal DVD support etc, could turn my little MCE killer into an MCE Reaper. Stay turned...

I guess I should explain. Click N Run is a package manager for Linspire. In addition to allowing people to download/install programs (like apt-get or rpm) they can also pay for commercial programs and features, like a licensed DVD player, mp3 codecs, windows codecs, etc.
Click N Run itself isn't a big deal. I was more referring to the ability of mythtv users to have a way to pay for and get licensed windows codecs and DVD software/player (or just the legal codecs to play commercial DVD's).

Unless it's changed in the last year their "licensed" dvd player is really xine. Linspire just turns over the money you pay to the dvd consortium. The product is not officially licensed in any shape or from.

well it may be xine, but the issue would be decss they are paying the DVD consortium to license decss and make it legal.

Correct, but it's my understanding it's NOT licensed. They just hand over the money as a peace offering to make them look the other way.

Makes the consortium sound like the mob. I wonder why Congress doesn't investigate this instead of passing BS laws wrapped patriotic names...
