Hi All,

My MythTV box boots up to a black screen. This happened after I rebooted the machine using the reset button on the front of the machine.

I was able to boot up to a command prompt by pressing the
Shift button during bootup and typing linux init=/bin/sh

I checked the /var/log/dmesg file and the last line has the following:

Quote:
Warning: /proc/ide/hd?/settings interface is obsolete, and will be removed soon!

I have found very little information about this error message. I have found it mentioned on some linux kernel lists, but what they talk about it greek to me. One message I read said that this error indicates a bug in the ide controller and another message indicated that it happened when they rebooted with a DVD in the DVD drive.

Unfortunately, the only fix I know of at the moment is to rebuild the system. Others can contribute to this post by providing the following information....

(1) What to do when this happens

(2) Who to communicate this error message to and how

P.S. This is the second time this error has occurred on my system.

I get that error on every boot -- extract from my kern.log is below with some surrounding context. But my system boots up properly.

1.Nothing. It is just a warning and is harmless.
