I have Athlon X2 4200+ with 2 PVR-150s, that 's been rock solid since I first installed KM. (back when the 4200+ was a high-end chip.) The older of the 2 150's (a non-MCE) has started going funny, Cable channels 2-5 come in, but they just don't encode properly. The pieces of the picture are clear, (i.e. no static) put pieces of the picture end up in the wrong place, or on the wrong frame, or duplicated around. Channels 6 and up record fine. My understanding was the tuning and the encoding were two separate processes, so this makes no sense to me. The second 150 tunes and records the channels fine, and I've verified that the connectors are not loose.

I've worked around the problem by creating a second lineup for the oddball card and deleting the channels, but that's a poor workaround.

So what could cause this sort of thing? is my card Rotting?!? could I have messed up something and only affected one card?

Have you swapped the cards to see if the problems follow the card?
Is it a heat issue? Is the card giving problems closest to the video card? Can you hang a fan next to it. Capacitors can be permanently damaged by to high of temperature. As the ufd drop the lower frequencies will suffer first. A Fan less video card can be made to operate at 80 deg C. But the capture card right next to it has problems over 40 deg C. I have no admiration for fan less video cards. I have damaged a HD3000 with a GeForce FX5200 video card and I had left a empty slot between them.

Rant starts here
To me the video processor / heat sink is on the wrong side of a video card. The heat sink could be 4 time bigger if it was facing the CPU. It would then receive some air movement that it can't get pushed up next to the other PCI cards.
