Hey,

I finally got my order delivered and have a nice new sound card I want to install in my machine. How hard is this going to be? What steps do I need to take to get it setup and configured?

Thanks,
-C

Mine was easy, but I was starting with basically "dragon 1.0 without the AV710". So it was fairly easy. I think I had to manually copy the dragon sound files. But subsequently, KM updates have done their magic without any intervention.
I think some of my troubles were with Xine, which I don't use/need now that the internal player handles DVD playback so well.

I believe I'm using the internal player everywhere...which should be helpful.

Well, I pulled out a tuner, and put in the card, not sure what to do next, it's still using my onboard sound.

I changed the output device to /dev/adsp1 that gets me sound from the new card, but not from the optical, just the regular outputs on the card

Code:
# aplay -l

card 0: ICH [Intel ICH], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: ICH [Intel ICH], device 2: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH - IEC958]
  Subdevices: 1/1

card 1: AV710 [Chaintech AV-710], device 0: ICE1724 [ICE1724]
  Subdevices: 1/1

I ran alsaconf and setup the ice driver, so now I just have my av710 recognized, and in setup am using /dev/adsp, but I still can't get it to use the spdif output, the only sound is coming out the black circle connector labelled "Back Surr" (?)
