In a nutshell, my new videoboard for my frontend box (GF 6200) has an S-Video out that only detects the TV plugged into it if it's connected by an S-Video cable; I can't seem to use an S-Video-to-RCA converter since my old frontend's TV lacks an S-Video In. When I connect it this way, I get no picture from the card since it's not detecting a TV connected.

I confirmed it by connecting it to another TV that does have an S-Video in and it worked just fine.

My S-Video-to-RCA converter sits between the video board and the RCA cable. It is a male S-Video and a female RCA.

Here's the diagram:

NV 6200's TVout (Svideo) --> S-Video-to-RCA converter --> RCA cable --> VCR's video in

Do you guys think it would make a difference if I bought the other S-video-converter that would go at the end of the s-video cable and change it into an RCA like this:

Or am I screwed and have to buy a VCR with S-Video in?

I have like 3 different methods I have used to connect the Svideo output to an RCA (composite) input on a TV.

One is a cable similar to yours although mine is 12 feet long due to the initial setup distance.

I have another one that is an adapter affair that plugs into the s-video on the card and then it uses a standard composite RCA cable to connnect to the TV.

Can't remember the 3rd one, but essentially they all work at about the same quality.

Is it possible that you are outputting a signal rate higher than the TV.
Have you confirmed the composite in on the TV is funtional? I had an old TV that was intermittent only through the composite. It had a manual switch on the side, but the real problem was in the jack.

The jack is fine (worked with the old card). It could be the adapter; I'll have to buy another one tomorrow to confirm it. I think the card doesn't like it as it is some how quelling a signal the card is using to detect the presence of a connected TV. I dunno.

I'll pick up one and report back.
