Even if we had a card that supported hardware encode/decode on chip for HD there are many other limitations. Bus speed and bios would be the largest. A 33Mhz bus with a 32GB hard drive or a 1ooMhz bus with a 120GB hard drive doesn't get you very far even with standard definition.

Besides this there is about 8 years worth of P4 class computers out there.
