I have a brand new PVR-250, had to get the coax tuner working by doing the "tuner=39" change..

Anyway, coax tuning works fine, and composite input works. But as soon as I switched to S-VIDEO (coming from my digital cable box), I got garbage. Its not black and white like I've seen discussed, and in fact, I cant find any references to garbled svideo inputs on an PVR-250 so maybe its just with new cards?

I've tried going through all 8 or 9 inputs, they were either black, or garbled.

Thinking maybe the SVIDEO signal was garbled, I pulled it out of the input jack on the PVR-250 and plugged it into my TV...signal was fine. SO....I'm assuming it some sort of driver issue. Any ideas?

I've never seen anything like it either, I would suspect hardware problems given the number of PVR250s in use. To be sure try it with a windows machine and the normal drivers. If its the same there get an exchange, failing that svideo to composite won't hurt too much and is easy to do. Cables are avaliable as are details of how to make your own using a capacitor to combine the signals.

I would think coax would be better alternative than composite.

from a digital box coax will envolve an extra encode and decode of the signal compared to composite, I don't know about the available bandwidths but would asume as coax carries multiple channels with audio and composite only carries a single channels image composite would have the higher bandwidth.

Still if they both work orbital I'm sure will use which ever looks best.

I dont see how composite would be better than SVIDEO.

Anyway, I installed the card in my windows machine...same thing. SVIDEO garbled. Guess its a bad card!

Returned the other one and got a replacement, SVIDEO works fine now. Looks a bit nicer.

Cool, Sorry if it came across as composite is the best ever. I was just saying that I would expect it to be better than coax. Svideo should be better again as it has two channels for the video, and RBG a further step up although I don't think there is a way to use it with the PVR250 but if anyone knows different I'd love to know as I'm currently converting RGB to composite to use it with the PVR250.

Still great to know that it is resolved.
