 Post subject: Two DVB Cards
PostPosted: Wed Sep 29, 2004 8:02 pm
Currently I am running my system as one pc with the front and backend on the same unit. I have just updated to the 0.16 debs and all is working very well.

At the moment I have one Visionplus DVB card in my system, but would like to run a second one in it so i can either watch and record, or record two shows at a time.

I have looked around at a few guides and running two DVB cards doesn't seem to be a major issue, is there a list of what the mythtv box can and can't do with two cards installed. ie can i record two shows at a time if my CPU (XP2000) can hadle it or can i only watch one record one.

Thanks in adavnce

well I have an athlonXP 1700+ with one pvr250 card and one software card and even without xvmc hardware acceleration I can record two shows simotaniously while watching a previously recorded show. I don't think my processor would handle this if they were both software though. I have no idea how dvb works, so I don't know if it equivelant to software or hardware encoding card.

Why not run top to see how much CPU is being used? Record a show and watch a recording at the same time for max usage. This should given you show idea of what to expect...

How are you running DVB cards on the Debs ? I am just now struggling with compile errors to recompile with DVB support. Do any of the available DEBS have DVB support compiled in ?

all i did was update the debs to 0.16.

Download the source from mythtv.org then recompile with DVB support. load up mythtv-setup and check it was all there.

and bang it was all back in business

jbman, I have had no problems using two VisionPlus DVB cards in my setup. It is an Athlon XP 2200 in a GigaByte motherboard (which has inbuilt network and video). I can do PIP of two shows, or record two shows while watching another prerecorded show at the same time (although in this situation there are occasional tears in the image, I think due to the 'kerneldeint' deinterlacing filter). This is with R4V4 and 0.15

I have tried three DVB cards, but my PSU doesn't apppear to be up to it (errors in DVB stream). If I can find a small enough one rated more than 300W, I will try again.
