Fact:

The ALSA 0.9 install does go by the numbers for an Audigy2 card. The modules stuff appears OK with respect to the ALSA pages for Creative hardware.

ALSA forums appear to indicate that the 0.9.x versions don't handle PCM and Master volume properly. This is the case from an AutoInstall of Knoppmyth R4V5.

All the functions work properly in MythTV, just no master volume control from the Hauppauge grey remote (see hardware below).

ALSA hardware how-to indicates that the 1.0.2 version and above corrects the PCM/Master volume issue.

I see two choices:

Update ALSA to a more recent stable code version OR

Modify a config file to allow the volume control to be a choice of Master, External or WAVE.

Any thoughts, CESMAN or others?

Should I bit the bullet and just pitch the Audigy2 until R5 of KnoppMyth or recompile and post in hints later.

Otherwise, KnoppMyth is superb...worked right out of the box with only a few minor tweaks all well doc'd in the forum.

Some SoundBlaster "Audigy" cards are known to be problematic with KnoppMyth and Linux. c.f. -
