Am using my knoppmyth box with PVR350 TV in and out. I'm in the UK so am running PAL. Now I've got it plugged into a proper aerial, the quality and resolution is wonderful - identical to normal TV if not better. But it's moving at about five frames per second.

I'm wondering if Myth is sending the TV output through the frame buffer by mistake, instead of using the built in decoding of MPEG-2 that's present in the PVR350. Anyone want to tell me how I can check this?

(Next step is to get sound back - it was working earlier today. I think I have a loose connection somewhere.)

most likely in your tv playback setting you have your output going to /dev/fb1 or /dev/fb0. It should be /dev/video16. Make sure you follow this guide for setting up TV-Out: http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?page=TvOutHowto

Hmmm - found a box I hadn't ticked for "Use PVR350 playback".

Ticked it now, but when I go to Watch TV it gives me a blank screen! Will play around a bit more with it.

Edit: can't seem to fix the blank screen bug. When I have Use PVR350 Decoding turned on, there is no output when I try to Watch TV (or watch any recording). The screen goes black and that's it. When the option is turned off, there is output but it's jerky.

Please help someone!

If I do this:

Code:
ivtvfbctl /dev/fb1 -noglobalalpha -localalpha
dd if=/dev/video of=/dev/video16 bs=64k

I get beautifully smooth TV output, with some random characters (part of the MythTV main interface I think, but at the wrong resolution) overlaid on top.

So it can do it - I just don't know how to get Myth to do so...

Success!

Code:
rm -f /dev/fb0autodetect
rm -f /dev/fb1
mknod /dev/fb1 c 29 1
chmod 666 /dev/fb1
chown mythtv /dev/fb1

It worked.
