I've recently updated my Knoppix Kernel from 2.4.21_xfs to 2.6.3. This upgrade fixed my problem with IDE chipset. Good news! However, I've got new problems now with 2.6.3. Here it goes:

- Every time I enter the "Watch TV" mode, the video is all dark and red. As soon as I make a channel change or another action, everything's fine. If leave the live-tv mode in the middle of a "being-recorded" live-show, the rest of the show is recorded with dark red color! :(

I didn't have this problem with kernel 2.4.21 (but I had a other major issue ).

First, I thought it was my video card driver, so I installed the nvidia drivers (Not waisted, since I get my tv out working with it). But it doesn't solve the dark red image problem.

I probably misconfigured a driver, missed a configuration or forgot to apply a kernel patch(?), but I don't know what to check. I took a look at the dmesg output to know if I am getting an error, this is what i found:

Mar 27 01:57:00 mythtv kernel: bttv0: skipped frame. no signal? high irq latency? [main=f2d1000,o_vbi=7388000,o_field=f2d1020,rc=6d54200]
Mar 27 01:57:00 mythtv kernel: bttv0: timeout: irq=53889/53889, risc=0418b084, bits: HSYNC OFLOW FDSR
Mar 27 01:57:00 mythtv kernel: bttv0: reset, reinitialize
Mar 27 01:57:00 mythtv kernel: bttv0: PLL can sleep, using XTAL (28636363).

This messages appears when i'm leaving the livetv mode.

Anyone can give me a hint about that? Maybe someone else got this problem?

Thank you! (Your support is really appreciated!)

does this happen everywhere or only on tvout? Nvidia chips have a known problem where they overpower the red on tvout. I use xv color controls to compensate.

it happens on tv-out AND on monitor. It is more like the image LOST color (black screen), but you can hardly see peoples or whatever is on the screen in dark red.

thanks anyway for your help! I will keep you inform if I find something. It is not a major issue, it is just a little bit annoying!

I'll search in bttv mail list to see if anyone is having the same problem with kernel 2.6.3..

thank you

well now I've seen this problem. it is a bug in a particular version of the v4l2 bttv drivers.

I'm seeing this same problem as of late on my machine lately too. Particularly annoying is that at times it begins recording fine and then, midway through a recording, it changes to the screwed up colors. It's exactly as described above - very dark, almost impossible to see anything. The only color that appears to show at all is red and the xv picture controls do nothing to help.

I've found a mention or two about this, but I haven't found a fix necessarily. From the sound of things here, it's the bttv version, which is part of the kernel package installed with KnoppMyth. Is there an upgraded kernel package available somewhere? I'm using the 2.4.25-chw specifically.

On another note, I've had this system, largely unchanged for a few years now and never had this problem until these past few weeks. I've always used this particular kernel as well, but lately I have tried playing with making a new 2.6 kernel and then I've gone back to the stock kernel. I've also had a lot of issues with disk space, so I've been troubleshooting things for that issue, but haven't done anything I can imagine having caused this.

it was a bug in the bttv drivers. there is a fix posted on the forums somewhere, but it should have been fixed for some time in the mainline. however if you are using an older version you may well still have the broken version.
