ello. i wanted to confirm something i was told by an online computer store.

I was told

"Hi Steve,

The TV-PVR250 is just the same as the TV-PVR250 MCE according to our
distributor."

This isnt true is it? i thought the MCE editions came sans remote control as they were designed to be used with MCE.

can someone set me straight.

thanks.. im in OZ if that makes any difference.

cheers lads.

They're trying to feed you a steaming heap of dingos kidneys. If you'd care to bludgeon them over the head with the facts all it takes is a visit to Hauppauges web site, and a quick look at the specs and pictures of the two very different cards:

http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_pvr250.html
http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_pvr250mce.html

Differences include remote/no remote, different connectors, no FM tuner/FM tuner, different chips, ... these transcend the NTSC vs. PAL distinction (they list both the NTSC and PAL version of each on the same page) so it doesn't matter where you live.

thanks.. i sent them a reply.. which included some of the following.. was tempted to be a prick and totally abuse them.. but decided to be diplomatic.

ive always been scared of computer re-sellers that appear to know even less about hardware than i do. so im guessing im not gona get anythnig from those guys.

thanks for the info. i did a search and it appears that the MCE's can be used with myth.. but they;re commonly used as a second tuner card.. i guess cause they're a little cheaper.. but without the remote or fm tuner.. theyre not what im after.

what is the fix for IVTV on the PVR 250 MCE. My card gets incorrectly recognized as a different version and halts the boot process. I had this solved but my hard drive died and I had to reinstall and I lost the link on how to solve this but remember it was simply modifying a single line in IVTV source code and then recompiling it.... like 30 seconds tops. I just forget what to modify.
