Say you don't want to use a dvd rom in a computer. I have tried that several times but after and hour or so of use it starts skipping and stopping. I can pause and wait for 3 minutes and then I can finish the movie. Also, I am looking at a very small frontend that will have no dvd rom in it.

Or just get a cheapo S-video switcher and switch to the DVD player when you want to watch it.

But, to answer your question, yes you can connect it to the S-Video port of the Hauppauge cards.
