I have a really weird issue.

I am putting together a new R5A12 system and I've bumped in to some video card problems.

The card is a Leadtek A180BT card based on the NVidia Geforce 4000 MX chipset.

The included install-nvidia script installed drivers the card didn't seem to like. When X started the Nvidia logo showed up and never left, and I had some ghosted menu items behind it. Reverting back to "nv" in the xfree86 config got me back but without any acceleration.

I downloaded the latest Nvidia linux drivers to X86 and installed them, and no everything is kosher on the monitor side, however...

Both with the included nvidia driver and then with the latest one, when I boot up on the TV with Svideo, I have no horizontal vsynch, everything is illegible and scrolling vertically uncontrollably. However, once GDM fires up X, everything stabilizes and the interface comes up.

I've installed on GF2 and GF4 cards before without any issue like this, normally the BIOS POST screens look fine and I have colour. With this is B&W and scrolling.

Does anyone know why this is or how to correct it?

Thanks,

-Jeff

try editing /etc/lilo.conf and change vga=blah to vga=normal then as root run lilo -v and reboot.

Sorry I should have mentioned, I tried that already. I'll double check to make sure I did the lilo -v but I think so.

It's odd that it comes up in X properly, but I can live with it if I can't resolve it. :)

Thanks XSecrets.
