Hi all. Just installed KnoppMyth on some old hardware I had sitting around, as kind of a "proof of concept". A decent P4 motherboard, decent ATI video card w/ SVid out, and an OLD Hauppauge Wincast/TV (Bt848) card.

The installation as absolutely painless, and I read almost NO docs. Everything works as advertised. My only problem is video quality. Watching live TV seems like it's dropping a few frames here and there. Things just look every-so-slightly jerky. Also, the video quality (in terms of fuzz and shadows) is not as good as if I ran the cable straight into the TV. Finally, whenever I watch TV, go back to the menu, and go BACK to live TV, the picture is SUPER dark, until I change channels.

I don't plan on spending a lot of time figuring these issues out, since this was just a trial run. If I decide to stick with Myth, I'll buy something like a PVR-250.

I guess my question is, will the various live TV problems I noted above likely go away with a more modern TV capture card?

Thanks for any input.

Matt

well are you displaying on a monitor or a tv? If you are displaying on a tv the frame drops are most likely due to the horrible support that ati gives to linux and the fact that there is not decent tvout solution for ati cards.

as for the other stuff I'm not sure.

The problem you are having is mostly likely related to the 9.12 version of V4L2 which is included in R4V3. This problem surfaced(came to my attention after R4V3's release), you can downgrade to V4L by installing the pcHDTV kernel or patch the kernel w/ V4L2 9.13. The PVR 250 doesn't suffer from this problem. I rarely see this problem w/ my WinTV 401.
