Have had webcam working for a long time on R5A16. Did a full reinstall on same hardware to R5C7. Plugged in webcam. Was recognized "out of the box". Defined a v4l capture card type, webcam source, and a channel dedicated to the webcam. Video is recorded fine. However no audio from the microphone on the webcam.

so it looks like the audio device is being recognize. Just no sound.

not sure where to go from hear since Alsamixer does not seem to address the audio on the usb webcam.

I found that when I used my webcam, you have to tell alsa which sound "card" is which and which order to use.

I had to create a file called /etc/modprobe.d/sound in that I would put:

Doesn't that only work at boot time?

This webcam "migrates" between the myth box and a windows machine.

So the webcam is not plugged in at boot time.

Ran a test recording :

arecord -c 1 -d 30 /myth/tmp/test.wav

No sound


One thing however. If I have a channel selected in watchTV and I run the arecord -c 1 -d 30 /myth/tmp/test.wav command I get the audio from the TV program in the test.wav file. I'm at a loss.

Turned out what needed to be done to activate the mic was :

amixer -c 1 sset Mic Capture 1 cap
set up /dev/dsp1 in v4l capture card def
set /dev/dsp1 in Phone setup
