Hi,

I'm just exprimenting with KnoppMyth and made a clean install with KnoppMyth R5E50. Everything so far seems to be workin fine, except that I have Ati Radeon 8500...

With default settings it worked ok, but the TV out was distorted. I thought installing the propriety drivers from Ati would help.

I downloaded the installer and followed the procedure in the knoppMyth wiki to install the latest Ati propriety drivers. It went through, but after I restarted the X, the screen went black. When I reboot the computer, I get the boot splash screen ok, but after that nothing.

I know, the reason behind everything is propably that the X.Org version in R5E50 is 7.1 and the Ati drivers only cover version 6.8. I kind of hoped it would work, but it seems not to... :(

Has anyone got it working? Should I downgrade to R5D1? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have an AIW 8500DV, and I've had a similar experience. According to ATI's web site, the Xorg drivers should work through 7.1 (the release notes seem to differ, maybe they haven't been updated). It looks like the Xorg that comes with R5E50 is 7.1.1, and when I try to install the latest ATI drivers, I get "Detected version of X does not have a matching 'x710' directory."
Anyways, did you end up downgrading?

Nope, I decided to stick with the R5E50.

After spending 20+ hours on getting the ATI drivers to work with no sucess, I went to local computer store and bought a VGA to TV converter for little less than 50 euros.

Installation took less than a minute, and the result is perfect. My advice: forget the TV out with Ati - the net is filled with those little less than $40 VGA-TV converters.

I got it working.

First I ran
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get install fglrx-driver fglrx-kernel-src

This installs the latest ati files

Then i got the ati tvout software
Code:
apt-get install atitvout

reboot, and voila

Easy as that :-)

This was on a radeon all in wonder 9800 pro, but It also works on my laptop's radeon 9000

[/code]

I had the same problem with a Radeon 9200.. could not get Xorg to work. tried everything.. latest drivers from Ati etc..

Eventually more out of hope i changed the driver directive from Ati in 'vesa'
and used the backup nvidia xorg for tv out in /etc/X11 ..and amazingly I got a picture on both monitor and S-video this was using 800x600 modeline.

Worth a try.. !
