Hello All,

Can someone tell me the difference between PAL and NTSC? Also, is one better the the other?

Also, I'm looking at a Sabrent SBT-TVFM card. Will this card work?

Thanks

NTSC stands for Never The Same Colour
PAL stands for Perfection at Last

You decide.

(Just Kidding).
PAL has superior resolution
NTSC has superior frame rate

This makes the two about the same (and they use about the same bandwidth and in the case of digital tv bitrates).

It comes down to what part of the world you live in. North American (US, Canada, ...) and Japan used NTSC, almost everyone else uses some flavor of PAL. PAL has a higher resolution and a lower sync rate and probably alllows for a higher quality picture. Both are in the process of being replaced by higher quality digital formats NTSC -> ATSC, PAL -> DVB.

Can you guess which format Greg gets? ;-)

Regarding NTSC and PAL, NTSC is used in North and South america and Japan. and PAL is used everyhere else in the world. I do not know about the resolution to me both look the same, really sharp and bright colors. but what I can tell you is that PAL's framerate is anoying on the eyes, everytime that I go to Europe and I watch TV I really notice IT! Maybe people from europe can't notice it because they are used to it, but when you come from a country that used NTSC you can really tell. you can see the image trembling, shaking, its hard to explain but its like a constant really fast flash of light, you'll notice it more when you have a solid color on the background like a solid blue, then you'll really see it shake!
