After all the other problems I'm having with this setup*, you'd think I would just give up :)

Right, with the standard lirc_reconfig.sh for the black remote and the original Hauppauge IR reciever, nothing is set up, so I re run it but using the Silver Remote setting, restarting the front end, but no response.

So having a look at the devices:
Code:
ls -l /dev/li*
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Jan 12 16:22 /dev/lircd
root@homenet-pvr1:/home/bruce# mode2 -d /dev/lircd
mode2: error opening /dev/lircd
mode2: No such device or address

Googling, there should be support for the black remote for WinTV Radio and some other Hauppauge products. I find from LinuxQuestions that you need to load the lirc_i2c and lirc_dev drivers, so:
Code:
oot@homenet-pvr1:/home/bruce# /etc/init.d/lirc stop
Stopping lirc daemon: lircmd lircd.
root@homenet-pvr1:/home/bruce# modprobe lirc_i2c
root@homenet-pvr1:/home/bruce# modprobe lirc_dev
root@homenet-pvr1:/home/bruce# ls -l /dev/li*
crw-rw---- 1 root video 61, 0 Jan 12 16:31 /dev/lirc0
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root      0 Jan 12 16:22 /dev/lircd
root@homenet-pvr1:/home/bruce# lsmod |grep lir
lirc_i2c               12420  0
lirc_dev               16628  1 lirc_i2c
i2c_core               20864  21 cx88xx,ivtv,lirc_i2c,nvidia,dvb_bt8xx,nxt6000,mt352,sp887x,dst,dvb_pll,cx24110,or51211,zl10353,lgdt330x,tuner,tvaudio,msp3400,bttv,i2c_algo_bit,tveeprom,i2c_piix4
root@homenet-pvr1:/home/bruce#

So that seems to be OK, so trying out mode2 on lirc0 with the Hauppauge Black remote, Hauppauge Silver Remote and a Samsung DVD remote returns nothing, except for an initial
Code:
code: 0x043b
when the app starts up.
So I'm wondering if there is something really wrong with this card :) or at least the receiver.
I have a a couple of Hauppauge IR receivers from a Nova-T and PVR350, can these be used with a WinTV Theater (without breaking them of course :) )?
Are there any other suggestions to get this to work?

Tried using one of the PVR350/Nova-T receivers, still didn't work with modprobing lirc_i2c, lirc_dev and running mode2.
It's annoying that this seems to be last thing I'm having problems with, on this machine.
