Turns out that the OverScan Option in the XF86Config-4 file caused the flicker problem just remove this record and you should be good. Using the overscan options provided directrly in mythtv playback options under setup allowed me to fix my screen size issues with no flicker on other screens.

you commented out overscan. Overscan will expand the picture to take up more or all of the screen
