I have an APC UPS connected to my Myth box with a USB cable. I had this set up and working in previous KnoppMyth releases using apcupsd, but after upgrading to R5E50, I cannot get apcupsd to "see" the UPS.

Code:
root@dragon:/dev# tail /var/log/daemon.log
Feb  4 19:41:32 dragon apcupsd[3951]: apcupsd FATAL ERROR in linux-usb.c at line 649 Cannot find UPS device -- For a link to detailed USB trouble shooting information, please see <http://www.apcupsd.com/support.html>.
Feb  4 19:41:32 dragon apcupsd[3951]: apcupsd error shutdown completed

root@dragon:/dev# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 06a3:3509 Saitek PLC P3000 RF GamePad
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I think the problem is that the new USB functionality in R5E50 is somehow not detecting the UPS's USB connection? Has anyone else ran into this yet, and solved it?

Thanks...
TWB

Mine is working.

- Do you see the hardware being recognized in the logs?
Code:
root@black2:~# lsusb | grep -i ups
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 051d:0002 American Power Conversion Back-UPS Pro 500/1000/1500

- Do you have the cable type and UPS type set to "usb" and the device set to nothing (rather than a specific device) to let it autodetect?
Code:
root@black2:~# sed -e '/^[ \t]*#/d' -e '/^[ \t]*$/d' /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf
UPSCABLE usb
UPSTYPE usb

LOCKFILE /var/lock

No, the device is not being recognized - this is the problem, I think. lsusb does not show the UPS, as it used to with previous releases.

Yes, I do have the apcupsd.conf file properly configured as you suggest.

I tried unplugging the cable and re-inserting it into a different USB port, but no go. I guess the cable could have gone bad, but that would be a very unlikely coincidence.

tjc,

People's time is valuable, and I am very sorry to have taken yours unnecessarily. I rechecked my usb cable, and found that the end that plugs into the UPS was not fully seated. I replugged it and voila:
Code:
Feb  4 22:33:49 dragon kernel: usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3
Feb  4 22:33:49 dragon kernel: usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Feb  4 22:33:49 dragon kernel: hiddev96: USB HID v1.10 Device [APC Back-UPS ES 500 FW:801.e5.D USB FW:e5] on usb-0000:00:02.0-1

"apcaccess status" cmd is able to communicate with the UPS, and all appears well now.

Again, apologies for this.
Thanks,
TWB

No sweat. It's always nice when it turns out to be something simple. Hopefully somebody else will find this info useful in the future.
