Hi all,

Trying to install R5E50 on my box which has a HVR1100 and a HVR1300 on a PCI riser card sharing the same PCI slot. THe BIOS is setup to do this.

R5E50 seems to detect both cards as I get a video0 and video1 option, however it only correctly identifies the HVR1100 card.
IF I have just the 1300 card in the slot it doesn't see it correctly either.

From information I've searched through on here, the HVR1300 should be supported now, yes ?
I found very little info on the HVR1100 so I find it funny that of the two cards, it's the one which works

Any help in getting the second card recognised correctly is appreciated.

Also, should I be setting these up as a DVB or A4L card ?

Your help is appreciated.
From looking at others boxes, Myth is sooo much better than MCE2005. I just hope I can get it working here! :?

Those cards are very new. I serious doubt that support for them was in the 2.6.18 kernel. The next release has an updated V4L/DVB drivers and they might work. The place to find out for sure to see if they work with Linux is http://linuxtv.org/

Thanks for the replay Cecil.
The next release of Knoppmyth ? Is it on the horizon or some way off if you happen to know ?
Still going to continue playing with what I have however.

Did some investigation for my own piece of mind thanks to your tips.

Going from: http://linuxtv.org/hg/~stoth/v4l-dvb?cm ... yle=gitweb
Support for the 1300 is in V4l as of Thu Sep 14 14:41:13 2006
Specifically: http://linuxtv.org/hg/~stoth/v4l-dvb?cm ... yle=gitweb

The Wiki for V4l suggests:
Devices supported by your current kernel are listed in your local kernel source Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST.cx88.
So I know where to check next time :)

From: http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/TV_Cards
Hauppauge HVR-1300
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
won't work with kernels below 2.6.19 . Kernels as of 2.6.18 may recognize the card, but won't get to work properly, e.g. no devices are installed in /dev/dvb. This card is recognized "out of the box" with kernel 2.1.19

http://www.knoppmyth.net/CHANGELOG.txt
Says that the last update to V4l was on 26 August 2006. There is no mention of any updates in R5RE50. Am I reading that correctly ?

If so, please can you tell me how would I go about adding in a newer version of the V4l drivers onto my R5RE50 distribution ? Or do I have to wait for a newer kernel anyway ?
I read: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Hauppauge_HVR_1300
Which to me looks like a big guide on how to add support into R5RE50. Or am I getting too excited too fast :D
Happy to give it a try if it's not a pointless exercise

The next release will be released when it is released. If a kernel update is what is required, then that won't happen for the next release. You can:
1) Update the kernel yourself. There is info here on doing that or you can Google.
2) Update the V4l-DVB drivers and see if that works. This is what I've done for the next release.
3) Be my guinea pig and test the next release (again however, if the kernel update is what is requred, this isn't going to happen. But I really cannot say I understand why simplly upgrading V$L/DVB wouldn't work4).

Thanks for the info Cecil I'll try updating the drivers DIY.

I've had a fleeting relationship with linux over the years but I have to admit that it's a step learning curve, but happy to learn.

Else, if the offer is there I'm happy to be a small pet rodent
