Is it possible to use the StreamZap receiver with a different remote?

I have the StreamZap up and running fine. However, I would like to use an old TiVo remote. When I run "irw" and try to look for the codes, I don't see anything. The red light on the StreamZap receiver flashes, but nothing is displayed.

I believe that I just asked a stupid question. The LIRC docs are not the best, but I think I need to take a look at irrecord. If anyone has any additional info (or knows where to find TiVo remote config files) I would appreciate the help.

Thanks!

I tired irrecord. After going through the procedure, I get the lines of dots and all. But, still no luck with the TiVo remote when trying to assign buttons. I guess I'll either give up or try another ir receiver. I can't find anything on Google about someone already using a StreamZap/Tivo combo.

If you end up giving up, ask for a Harmony 880 for Father's Day. It knows how to drive MythTV pretending to be a StreamZap. And it will turn on your TV and AMP, set the correct inputs, etc.. It's a one-click "Watch MythTV" experience.

The StreamZap IR receiver works fine with other remotes. In fact I have never even put batteries in my StreamZap remote, I simply bought it for the receiver.

You need to make sure you have an lirc.conf file that works with your remote and you also need to have a proper lircrc file that works with your lirc.conf file.

I've used several different remotes with my StreamZap receiver and all have worked perfectly. If your having problems it's with your lirc setup and not with your StreamZap!

What remote are you currently using?

It's an Onkyo RC-518M that came with my Stereo (I highly doubt you can get one seperately). It was already able to control my stereo and my TV so I just used irrecord to make an lirc.conf file for it and edited my lircrc file and now it can control my Myth box too! It's so nice having one remote that can do everything and I didn't have to spend $100+ on some fancy remote!

That's my goal too. But it seems like the TiVo remote is not compatible with the StreamZap receiver. I'll give some other remotes around the how a go and see what I can get to work.
