I have an old Samsung DirecTV Tivo unit that I would like to remove the hard drive and install MythTV on. Does anyone know if it is possible to do this (i.e., if I install MythTv on a new hard drive and insert this new drive into the DirecTv box, will the MythTV software recognize the hardware in the box and all the features of MythTV work?

Thanks

The harddrive is a standard drive but MythTV is NOT compatible with the setttop DVR hardware! Don't do it!

EDITED: Because I'm an idiot and didn't read it well enough the first time!

Don't do it!

Firstly, I don't believe the Tivos are using x86, probably PowerPC.
Secondly, the hardware is proprietary so there are no binary blobs available to handle it.
So it won't work.

Original Tivos were supposedly quite "hackable" and allowed extensions to be created, but I would assume that's one of the later models which are less modifiable.
If you are intending to update your machine, I would recommend googling for your model/type number and look for updates, hacks etc.

I just re-read this thread. I thought the OP just wanted to pull the HD from the box and use it in a PC!

Now that I re-read I see that he wanted to put it back in the DVR box.

NO - That won't work at all!

Sorry for the confusion. I really need to learn to read things slower.
