Just got the 4.4 version up and running, except for my sound. What's this ALSA thing being loaded at boot? I know when I boot from the Knoppix CD it loads the VIA_82Cxxxx driver and it works. How do I get this working in the distro? :?:

Plus my remote on my PVR-250 doesn't seem to work either. Something I have to do to get that working? I know the card is functional because I get static snow when viewing TV (cable not hooked up to it yet).

Other than those two things, this lil setup turned my hair pulling experience of trying to get MythTV up and running from a scratch Debian install into a two night simple install.

I assume you mean R4V4... Saying it doesn't work isn't saying much. ALSA is the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture. The remote issue has been answered time and again on the forum.

This quote is from the following site, your remote should work after this.

Quote:
Login in as root. install-i586-x will install the i586 package with XvMC. If you have a 686 class processor substitue 5 with 6. install-i586-lx will install the i586 package with native LIRC and XvMC.

As for the sound problem try searching the forum for ALSA or sound problems.

Telling me what ALSA stands for isn't saying much.... What else do you want me to say... it's not working... no sound... no errors.... Well no errors that I can see at least, does ALSA write logs out somewhere?

And time and again I have gone through and tried each thing with the remote issue... still nothing...

Try look at your mobo/soundcard makers webby.
I got a Intel mobo with soundcard built in yesterday.
It had a ac97 card and intel had drivers for linuc on there site.

Ended up getting frusterated trying to get the thing to work all dang week and went to the store and got me a new SB Audigy LS. Whitch by the way ALSO isn't supported by ALSA.... End up having to use the stinking OSS driver package, and it worked right out of the box. Detected everything first go round. Actually scared the crap out of me at first, I forgot I turned my speakers all the way up making sure that the volume wasn't the issue. Actually threw me back, flipping me backwards outa my chair. Now..... there's the issue of trying to talk my self into buying OSS or finding another way of getting the Audigy LS working....
