What happens if if you change it to the following?

bttv card=12
tuner type=2

You may need to delete the tuner in step 2 first and then re-add it.

I think you may need to put those in /etc/modprobe.conf as options.

Have there been any tests of R5F1 with the Avermedia A180 HDTV card?

Until the Avermedia card falls into the "just works" catagory, I will stay away...
