I'm looking at making my second attempt at a MythTV system and I want to use Firewire for capture. I want to use firewire because it seems like the cleanest solution. Being about to use it for bot recording programs and changing channels. I have a "Dish Network ViP 211" receiver and was lookng at getting it modified by [url]169time.com[/url] to have the firewire port. Would this work?

I was reading that you need special drivers that don't exist, but that was from a post from 2005. Has this been fixed?

To the best of my knowledge, no one has connected a 169time firewire port up to MythTv. There were some initial communications, but the 169time guy charges a fortune for the mod and was not interested in providing one to the MythTv devs who would write the software to handle it.

Wish it were otherwise, but I think it's a non-starter.

Damn, that seems pretty foolish to me on the part of 169time.com.

Whats my next best option then? Can I record audio over the optical cable or video over the HDMI? Can I record both over HDMI? A quick search turned up this http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/, but are there drivers for it?

I searched the forums and didn't come up with anything on the Intensity card. Then I googled and found this is already in discussion on other myth forums. I think I'll hold back on the PVR function for now. What I really want to do is digitize by DVD collection anyway.

Yeah it really sucks. I have an HD satellite receiver and I've about given up on ever recording HD from DirecTV. I'll probably just dump it on ebay since I have no intention of ever signing up for DirecTV HD service again.
