I tried following the posts about the Marvell gigE lan and I was able to toss the source file on a thumb drive and try the manual install of the driver.

For the record, the sk98lin and skge both returned and error with modprobe.

So, I unzipped the source file and went down the route of generating the patch. This failed with no message, so I tried a more manual approach. I went to /usr/src/linux and tried a "make menuconfig" where I was greeted with a segfault from gcc (noting cc1 as a culprit).

I am using D1 on the P5LD2 with a dual core P4. I can try to dump the full message to my thumb drive tonight and post it here if necessary.

The odd thing is if I put in a plain old Linksys 10/100 PCI card it isn't seen from Knoppmyth either. Actually, no network cards can be seen by Knoppmyth. I have used this exact same CD on my other box, so I know the burn is good.

Any suggestions on this one? I tired 2 other PCI network cards and got nothing on either. This is a new one for me because in the past when a net card went out all I had to do was plug in another 10/100 I have laying around and they all "just work".

Thanks in advance

Solved (11/25):

Everything worked just fine out of the box in Ubuntu, so I knew this was a working card and had the Debian drivers. I reloaded Knoppmyth on a spare drive and this time I decided to run netcardconfig just for grins. It turns out this was the missing step because when I ran netcardconfig both of my cards were available. Everything worked just fine after that.

I can't explain why none of the cards I tried would work, but a run through netcardconfig may resolve some odd card issues.

I have a friend who has a ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe MOBO and we would like to know if this is the topic of your post. It sounds like you were able to get it to work with KM. Did the KM Drivers work?

Thanks!
