Hello,

I'm a bit desperate at the moment about this issue. After I switched to R5E50 the xorg and the mythtv process is using alot of CPU time when playback a recording.

so about all my CPU power goes to the playback of my video.

My System Specs:

CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.93GHz
Memory: 1024Mb
PVR: Hauppauge PVR-150
Hauppauge PVR-500 (x 2)
VideoCard: Gigabyte ATI X1600
Storage: Sata drives (LVM volumes)

I tried installing several different videocard still the same problem. I'm not playing HD just plain old PAL-B

Played a bit with the modelines and mythtv settings. I can't get it less then 80% cpu. So if I record 5 recordings at the time, I can't playback a recording at the same time. Didn't had that problem in R5C7

Did you ever resolve this? I am experiencing something similar.

After upgrading from R5B7 to R5F1 I see mythfrontend usage of 55% while watching tv... FYI this is SDTV using a pvr-350 on an Athlon64, so it's not exactly as though I have an underpowered system...

xorg also seems to spike pretty good whenever a UI update occurs (up to 95%).

Any thoughts?

Things I have tried:
- Default VBI -> None (did helped tv to be less choppy)
- Upgrade to ivtv 0.10.5
- Upgrade kernel to 2.6.21.6 (for other reasons)
- Ensured DMA usage of HD
- Ensured usage of PVR-350 Decoder chip

System Details:
Athlon64 3800+
NVidia GeForce 6100 chipset
512 MB RAM
200 Gb Seagate PATA drive
PVR-350 using TV-OUT
PVR-250

Well I resolved this issue for my situation. It turns out the setup_350.sh script was making an incomplete xorg.conf file. Specifically the xorg.conf file had no "ServerLayout" section or anything, only the portion of the xorg.conf file that should have been appended to a complete xorg.conf.

In other words, the xorg.conf file didn't actually specify which screen to use, so X defaulted to using both, sending video to the video adapter as well as the pvr-350 (hence the high CPU usage to decode mpeg-2 on the fly.

Hopefully that will help someone at some point. --sa
