Quote: Given this info looks to be something with hardware combo. You try moving the 5500 to a diffrent PCI slot?
Unfortunately, in this compact style machine, I have but 1 slot to use.
I think I may have gotten this particular issue worked out (not sure), since I could install D1 with the tuner out of the machine, and then reinstall the tuner afterwords. This /appears/ to work, but I am still having issues. I started a new post in the Hardware forum, since knoppmyth is technically installed at this point. Everything isnt working properly, but...
The new thread is here. It explains my new issue, which is every bit as bizarre to me.

This is the first time I am seeing this error as well - I do not have the HD5500 tuner but I do have a DVICO fusion gold 5 on my system and an AC'97 sound card.
I was able to install R5D1 using the Code: expert boot command.
But I get the same error and the computer hangs when it starts to run alsa-autoconfig script in the second phase of the upgrade (i.e. after the computer reboots) .
Any help will be greatly appreciated

Well, pvr500, I halfway hate it for you and half way am glad I am not the only one!
The only luck I had was removing the tuner, installing (completely, through the entire second phase), then reinstalling the tuner and going through the setup procedures a second time for the changed hardware.
And even then, everything isn't working correctly, as Myth yeilds no video/audio while tvtime does (showing the hardware is working).
If you figure anything out, post back here - I'd love to know what the root of the issue is.

same problem here with sound card
Tryed too install with soundblaster live card on a Asus P4P800-VM motherboard but it hangs in the installation.
Then i tryed with a Soundcard with ICE chipset ( pure proffesional hardware card ) and then i didt manage the installation but runing a alsamixer or alsaconfig just makes the sytem hangs . hmmm
The soundblaster and the soundcard with ICE chip both worked in the later version of knoppmyth
Well then i didt a therd install with no soundcard just the onboard card the system went into kernel panic *LOL*
well then i just disabled the sound so i didnt have any sound on the machine just to check the rest of my hardware
and the installation was just straight forward
went to the setup process of my tv cards *lol*
didnt work either
my tv cards are
PVR150
HVR 1300 DVB
neither of those cards works i just get a black screen
-------------
Ok
Went back to the old version of knoppmyth and now the sound works and my PVR150 works but not the HVR 1300 DVB card
so this is where i stand right now
I have no clue of what is coursing the problem in the new knoppmyth but my guess is that there soon will come another release of it *lol*

Okay, I reloaded R5C7 to see if I could get things running with it. Bottom line, is if I follow the same install procedure (install without the tv card, then install the card and drivers) then I get the same result.
It's really odd - with the cable disconnect from the tuner, I get a "no signal" type message on the screen. With the cable plugged in, I get a black screen and then a time out back to the main menu.
This happens in C7 and D1.
Any thoughts? I'm at a loss here. I can get picture and audio with tvtime, so I know the hardware works, but with the cable actually plugged in to the card, I get nothing from Myth.
Again, AC97 audio (onboard Intel 8x0) with a HD5500 tuner.

I also hung on booting the D1 CD. I used expert boot line and was able to install.
I modified the script linked below to install ALSA 1.0.12. After installation I still got the same kernel errors with the sound.
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... light=alsa
Everything worked fine with R5C7. I have on-board AC97 and DVICO fusion Gold 5.

Well I got mine to install by taking out my dvb (FusionGold) card. It installs without a hitch and the post install stuff all goes smoothly.
After you finish the post install
run alsamixer and set your volumes
Shutdown your computer then re-insert your tuner card. It will boot and the script will run again and ask for your password etc.
Make any changes to your asound.conf file or equivalent
It should work now.
Good luck
p.s. I suspect that with the card in cx88_alsa gets in the way of the installation and configuration of alsa for whatever reason but I will leave that to people with more experience to figure out.

I have the same problem (no sound and a kernel OOPS whenever I try to run alsa_init or alsaconf). I also have a pcHDTV 5500 card and an integrated AC97 sound chip. Messages show some kind of conflict between the cx88_alsa module (sound from the tuner) and the snd_via82xx (onboard sound) driver.
R5D10 (which I am using) has the latest driver for the 5500, including cx88_alsa, so I will try upgrading my alsa drivers to 1.0.12 and see
Not sure where to go from here.

rclose wrote: I'm new to Myth and KnoppMyth, though not quite so new to linux. So...
I have an old PC that I have just started playing with to make a Myth box. I have a pcHDTV HD5500 tuner, GeForce FX 5500 graphics card, and onboard AC97 audio. Here are my problems:
When booting with R5D1, the boot process hangs right after "Setting default volumes" message. It just stops, forever.
I can boot with the failsafe option, and install knoppmyth (seemingly) fine, but I get absolutely no audio. If I run alsa_init or alsaconf I get an Oops.
Since the first real message from the kernel is: EIP is at snd_cx88_capture_volume_get+0xb/0x30 [cx88/alsa] I am guessing the problem is some conflict between my onboard sound and the sound capture on the HD5500.
Any ideas on how to resolve this? I see the onboard audio controller when I lspci...
help?
I am having the same problem.
My specs:
CPU: P4 2.8ghz
MOBO: Intel D865PERL (w/ on-board AC97, I prefer to disable it in the BIOS and use SBLive)
SoundCard: Sound Blaster Live (EMU10K1)
TV: Fusion 3 Gold
Video: FX5200 128MB
I tried to start install with the following configuration:
1. AC97 Disabled + with SBlive + With Fusion3 = Failure
2. AC97 Enabled + Without SBlive + With Fusion3 = Failure
<Failure with either sound device>
3. AC97 Disabled + With SBlive + Without Fusion3 = Success!
3. AC97 Enabled + Without SBlive + Wihtout Fusion3 = Success!
<Must be something with my Fusion card or as stated ealier a problem with ALSA>
Note: Install worked fine with a previous Knoppmyth version ~4 months ago.
I am trying to work around this by installing the TV card post install.

I am at this point too. Did ALSA v1.0.12 work? I am going to try that and some older versions.

No, upgrading to the latest ALSA did nothing. I tried emailing Ricardo who maintains the cx88_alsa driver that is experiencing the problems and he has not replied.
I ordered a new soundcard so I will see if this works better. That seems to be the general recommendation floating around on the net for people in our situation--disable onboard sound and try various sound cards until one works.
Regards,
Matt

I disabled onboard audio and tried an SBLive however it fails in the exact same way. I would not recommend getting a SBLive to work around this issue or any other EMU10K sound card (Audigy/Audigy2).
Tonight I am going to try an older version (v1.0.08 ) of ALSA and see what happens.

I re-installed 4 times trying to find a workaround, I just dont know enough about linux and installing devices. After downgrading ALSA to v1.0.10 and v1.0.11 and v1.0.8, ALSA will not recognize my sound card. Alsaconf says 'cant find PNP/PCI, would you like to scan for ISA cards'.
I wanted to get R5D1 to work so I could use the DEB packages to update myth to .20, however Im giving up on trying to find a workaround to the ALSA incompatibilty.
I will re-install when the next release of Knoppmyth w/Myth .20 comes out. Until then I'll take this time to try out Vista RC1 w/MCE.

I had same problem with this release. I had to boot with failsafe on cd.
I moved away cx88-alsa.ko from /lib/modules/2.6.17-chw-8/kernel/drivers/media/video/cx88
and put in snd-cmipci in /etc/modules
After reboot things came up again
Now the capturecard MSI @nywhere master worked and I had a soundcard working.
But now I have another problem, if I try to watch movies it just crash or something when I try to start.
