With regards to the remote/IR stuff, is there a reason you are using the Streamzap USB instead of the one built into the HDHomerun?
Looks like a good setup, have fun with it!

Yes! Because I don't own an HDHomerun yet. I had thought of using the IR receiver in the HDHomerun but that would mean I would need line-of-sight to the HDHomerun and I don't plan to have it in view.
Good of you to point out that the HDHomerun can be used as an IR receiver though as it may benifit others!

My NSK-2400 case arrived on Tuesday and since I got the afternoon off work due to the blizzard I had plenty of time to paint it and get my system transfered over. The silver plastic portion on the front of the case was really easy to remove so there was no need to mask off LED's or buttons.
I ended up cutting out a portion of the back of my entertainment center to allow better ventilation to the box but I was anticipating having to do that. It's just cheap panelboard back there anyway.
All in all I'm very happy with the results. Here are a couple pictures of the finished product:
I'm looking forward to adding an HDHomerun once funds become available!

I still remember the look on my mom's face when my brother in-law and I were getting ready to take the hole saw to the 1/4" plywood on back of their TV hutch. When we were finished it looked like it was part of the original design.
BTW - What did you do to give the two fan ports on the side of the case breathing space?

There is about an inch of clearance on both sides. Both the back (thanks to a drill and a saw) and the front of the entertainment center are open so it vents fairly well. I wish I had a little more room on the sides to get more airflow through the case but unfortunately I don't and I can't really cut holes in the 3/4" solid wood side, that would not go over well with my wife.
Since I cut out the back of the entertainment center, the power supply fan has not kicked up from the lowest speed even under load (it would kick up to medium within 5 minutes before I cut out the back). I finally got the temp sensors working on my processor. It idles around 40 C which is a little hotter than I'd like but shouldn't cause any problems. Haven't had a chance to see what it jumps up to under heavy load but it didn't even break 42 C while watching a DVD. Of course PowerNow still had the processor running at half speed (1 GHz) so that isn't any real indication. I need to get it going full tilt and see what my temps are then but I haven't found a way to really load it down yet. I'm am pretty concerned that I'm not going to like the results though.

You could always install cpuburn, and run a couple of burnk7 instances.

I'm using the lm-sensors package. I just ran Code: sensors-detect and it probed my hardware and gave instructions how to set everything up. It was pretty slick.
I'm not sure if Knoppmyth has lm-sensors installed by default but you should be able to apt-get it.

Well I finally sold my old High School car last night for enough money to buy an HDHomerun. ('88 Honda Accord - 167k miles - cracked windsheild - no side mirror - rusted through - blown radiator)
Soon my journey into all that is HD goodness will be complete!!! I'm hoping that UPS pulls off a miracle and gets it here by the weekend but I'm not holding my breath.
I've got a good antennae rigged up in the attic since I now get more HD channels OTA than I do through Comcast so I won't be doing anything with QAM yet. Verizon will be rolling out FIOS TV in the next couple months so I'm hopeful that I can get more unencrypted HD content from them. That's still a wait and see....
I'm looking forward to at least having the major networks in HD. Some of the local affiliates also broadcast some good stuff on their side channels that isn't HD but is digital that I'm looking forward to recording. For example the MyTV channel shows two episodes of Frasier every night.

Thanks for the update. I'd appreciate you updating the thread with your experiences getting the HDHomerun working with R5E50. I know you won't be using QAM (at first, at least), so it should be relatively painless, but your experiences will go a long way towards determining what I do with my setup.
Thanks,
d

In reading about your heat issues (40c at idle seems a bit hot) I was curious if you are using the 65w EE version of the 3800+, or if you're using the 89w version. I'm hoping the EE version of the CPU will be a bit better with regards to heat.

I am using the 65W version of the chip however my Myth box is fairly enclosed in my entertainment center so it doesn't get the best airflow.
I'm also using the stock AMD fan with the stock thermal pad so that isn't doing me any favors.

HDHomerun is "Out for Delivery"! It kinda feels like Christmas.
I can't wait to finally have my Myth box finished... well, I guess with me and Myth it's never really finished.
I'll post an update when I get it all working.

I have to say for the cases, coolerguys.com has an enermax with 380 watt power, 7 in 1 usb memory card reader and lcd display for only $90. I just purchased one for my 3rd front end.
http://www.coolerguys.com/multimediacase.html
If you must use antec go directly to their site and click on the B stock link. I have purchased 3 B stock cases from them and aside from cosmetic blemishes I have had no issues. Two were multimedia cases; a minuet 300 I got for $36 and a overture II I got for $70. The third was a server tower.
Right now they have the minuet 300 for $54 and the NSK2400 for $48.
For the mobos I have only Asus in all my machines. I have 2 of the m2npv-vm and they work great. Thermaltake has a really quiet (16db) fan, ruby orb, that is short enough to fit in the half height cases like the minuet 300, for under $40.
With the B stock and other discounts I put together my last front end:
case minuet 300 $36
mobo/cpu m2npv-vm+1.9ghz athlon dual core $145 (newegg combo special)
cpu fan ruby orb $40
ram corsair value ram 1 gig $60
17 gig hd for install $17
Under $300 total, not bad. It is totally silent as that was a requirement because it is in the master bedroom and runs continuously.

I'd be surprised if Verizon FiOS will let you record HDTV shows. It's likely to require a special "cable" box which has no unencrypted firewire output. I'd love to be wrong about this.
