I have the PVR-500 dual tuner card with Samsung tuners purchased about 1.5 years ago. I had mixed feelings about it for a while. Tinny sound on some channels, some fine tuning issues, etc. Things got better with R5F1, but now all the problems have gone away with R5F27 and I am very happy with it.

This sounds promising! Would it for other reasons than saving a PCI slot make sense to go for the 500? And oh, would it at all be possible for you to post a short capture or e-mail me one, I would appreciate it a lot!

Cheers!

Good call going with the dual core cpu. I'd put 1gb of RAM in. You don't mention the disk so if you're still thinking of 250gb, I'd say go larger. I keep a lot of cooking and home improvement shows on the box for future use, and when you do that the space fills up fast. You may want to keep music, or photos, or movies on the box, and then you'll have the same problem, less room for TV shows. Good luck with things!

Well, the current setup (with a 250gigger) is about €100 cheaper than the one listed in the first post. That's what 6 months of planning gives... :)

I might go with a bigger drive, otoh I will probably move the "media" drive from my ordinary PC over to the HTPC too, so that's another 250gb there.

I don't know how to grab a capture. If you can provide drunken monkey directions, I can do it. (of course, I'll have to get drunk first!) :D

Hm, make a recording in MythTV? :) That results in an mpeg, no?

I wouldn't know what else to suggest, until I've gotten my HTPC I will most likely stay an almost-linux-virgin (used red hat briefly in like... 1996), so I'm not the one to hand out any tips here :)

Ok, back again, with some slight modifications to the proposed setup:

ABIT AN-M2HD, nForce 630a+GF7050PV, Socket-AM2, DDR2, HDMI, m-ATX, PCI-Ex16
Asus DRW-1814BLT, SATA, Black, Retail
Antec NSK2480, Desktop, 380 Watt PSU
Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T PCI DVB-T Tuner
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150, Retail
Samsung SP T166 500GB, SATAII, 16MB
AMD Athlon64 X2 BE-2350, EE, BOX
Corsair Value DDR2-800, 1024MB

Would anything in this setup cause any problems? Not sure about going with just one analog tuner, so I might scrap the digital ones for now, or not...

Gah, it would seem that
1) knoppmyth didn't succeed in getting the video to work
2) the built-in ethernet chipset isn't supported
