Hi,

No less than 256 either. I have found 384 just puts the swap barely into usage and not having to wait on swap is a big performance plus. That is assuming an analog tv system. Not sure about digital stuff yet.

I am having a problem, hoping you guys can help.

My machine is a Dell Dimension 3000.
Pentium 4 2.80 ghz
1 GB RAM
Brand new 200 GB HD, set as Master on the primary IDE channel.
PCI PVR-500 installed.
PCI NVidia GeForce FX5200 256 MB DDR installed.

1) I ran the setup. Seemed to work fine. Said to eject CD and reboot. Did so and rebooted.

2) Bunch of text scrolled by, long pause, and then this came up:

INIT: Id "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

Not sure what to do from here.

3) I pressed enter. It asked for my login.

4) I logged in and entered my password.

5) Came up with this prompt: myuserid@mythtv:~$

Looked online, don't see what to do or where to go from here. Can anyone help?

Anyone on Pacific time, if you want to call... (818 ) 908-0709.

THANK YOU!
Daniel

Hi,

The Dell sometimes have an issue with letting go :) It has an onboard video and want to use it.

When it comes up and finishes flashing c7, do a cntrl c or maybe just press enter and you should get a prompt to log in. Do so as root with your admin password.

then edit xorg
nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf

scroll down and change the Driver that probably says "i810" to be "nvidia". do a ctrl x, y enter and wait for a few minutes., ~3 or 4 depending how fast you type:

Note, the driver "vesa" should work on any card, but is really only good to get one started. Also see tjc's excellent Hints&Tips.

Everything's good. Myth is working great. Only two problems remain:

1) I can't drop ROM's into the ROM directory via sftp. I can drop videos fine, but not ROM's. Any idea why? I'm not great with permissions...

2) Biggest issue: Remote is not working. I bought the PVR-500 MCE boxed set withe remote. (this link: http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-WinTV-P ... 083&sr=8-2)

I don't know why it's not working. Seemed to recognize the usb IR sensor, but still not working.

Any ideas? Advice?

Other than that, it works GREAT and I am so excited! THANK YOU ALL!

Daniel

Everything is working great except the remote. I have the Hauppage MCE-500 kit with the black colored "dog bone" remote. I tried running the lirc-reconfig.sh command and tried it with different drivers. Nothing is working. I don't know if it's an issue with lirc, irw, mode2, etc., etc., and this is where my linux/unix knowledge pretty much stops.

Can't find any step-by-step helpers that apply to this remote.

Any ideas?

Otherwise, it's GREAT and we love it!

Many thanks,
Daniel

That's an MCE remote. Also, the script may very well have produced and error dialog along the lines of "NOTE, the included lircrc is for the older MCEUSB and may not work. If you have an updated version, please send it to $maintainer" If you saw this it means that you need to find or create an appropriate mapping file for the application buttons.
