Thanks for the speedy reply, I get the colour distortion on VGA and on TV-Out. BTW the card is a 9250 if thats of any significance.

Is it a problem before you apply the new drivers or just after?

I thought there were controls to adjust the color for Xv, but I'm afraid I don't know them.

- Enable the Xv controls in the setup menus (I forget the exact path, probably TV->general or TV->playback).

- While watching TV or a recording either hit the "f" key or go into the OSD menu and look for "Adjust Picture" (you may need to scroll down).

- This should reveal controls for the color, contrast, brightness, and hue.

I just did an auto upgrade with R5D1 after backing up. I then upgraded to mythtv 0.20 as per cesman's instructions, and then did tjimenez87's ATi stuff.

Everything seems fine now, I just don't have a tv at hand to check tv-out, I will report back on that tommorrow.

Thanks for everyone's input.

[quote]Well, can't help you with a bad card. Hope you have better luck with new hardware. [/quote]

It's not a bad card, per se ... it's a bios issue. My bios detects the AGP slot as the primary video device, but based on my latest searches I need to set the PCI-based Radeon card as the primary video device to get around the CAIL error I'm seeing. There were some related posts on the Rage3d Forums with people having trouble with tv-out.

Of course, being a Compaq EVO 500, I don't have any Bios options which will allow me to do it. :(

And yanking the AGP card still doesn't let the PCI card be the sole and primary video card?

Tv-out and Xv works fine after the steps I described yesterday.

Nope ... I was just as shocked as you. :)

I blame Compaq and their wonderful proprietary BIOS

tjimenez87,

Do you know if we can enable composite out? I've been trying to get this to work with a svideo-composite cable but all I ever get is greyscale.

I have composite out working on my 9550. It uses one of those little yellow plug in adapters. I had a very lousy picture at first, until I changed the jumper on the board from PAL to NTSC, so don't forget to check the simple stuff!

I think the video out looks better on this board than the FX5200 I was using, thanks for the great instructions. :D

I finally got it. Everything works perfectly again, and with R5D1. I got an old version of the drivers that works. Here are the steps. (I couldn't sleep with this unsolved :P )

Have a clean copy of R5D1. You MUST NOT have installed the drivers that came with the system in the /usr/src directory. If you have, get your boot disc out, because you need to wipe your drive. This had me stumped for a while.

Okay with a clean copy of R5D1, issue these commands as root:

Code:
1. wget https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/fglrx_4_3_0-8.20.8-1.i386.rpm
--no-check-certificate
2. alien -d fglrx_4_3_0-8.20.8-1.i386.rpm
3. dpkg -i --force-overwrite fglrx-4-3-0_8.20.8-2_i386.deb
4. aticonfig --initial --overlay-type=Xv
Optional:
5. aticonfig --resolution=800x600

My tv needs that last setting. Yours may or may not. Unplug your monitor, leaving your tv plugged in and reboot your machine.

Alternatively, you can run fglrxconfig to get a completely new XF86Config-4. But the aticonfig commands will generate a config file without it. For other driver options for the XF86Config-4 file you can see what I posted earlier.

Being a TOTAL NOOB at this I found this to work perfectly on my 9500 pro card. I now get S-Video output from the card to my tv. I did not have to enter step 5. I don't have a clue what all of that means up there but I typed it in and rebooted and it worked!

Thank you very much for the work on this!

Now if I can find a way to get my DVI to component adapter to work, that would be great!

Heheh, thanks. For those interested in learning more, the steps can be summarized as:

1. Download
2. Convert
3. Install
4. Configure
