I own a buslink IRDA USB receiver and I am trying to get it to work as a receiver for my remote control. I am running Knoppmyth R5A30.2. When I plug in the receiver "dmesg"
Quote:
usb 1-3: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
SigmaTel STIr4200 IRDA/USB found at address 2, Vendor: 66f, Product: 4200
drivers/net/irda/stir4200.c: IrDA: Registered SigmaTel device irda0

If I then execute "find / -name irda0" I find the directory "/sys/class/net/irda0" has been created, but I don't find anything like "/dev/irda0".

I will do some more digging, but does anyone have any tips or experience on getting an IRDA receiver working with LIRC? I've seen conflicting reports out there on weather it's possible to make this work.

Marc

lsusb shows the stir4200 device but I can't figure out how to get lirc to use it. thanks

here's my relevant dmesg:

usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -110
usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
NET: Registered protocol family 23
SigmaTel STIr4200 IRDA/USB found at address 2, Vendor: 66f, Product: 4200
drivers/net/irda/stir4200.c: IrDA: Registered SigmaTel device irda0
usbcore: registered new driver stir4200

I never made any progress on this -- I'm now using a PVR-150 card with an integrated IR receiver. Works fine with LIRC. This was quite some time back and I believe I eventually found documentation showing that not all IRDA devices work properly with LIRC.
