Hi

I was enjoying using KnoppMyth, and had just one isue left more or less.. my remote.. then suddenly from one week to another the sound stops working, i cant remember that i should had done ANYthing to stop it. Everything under Alsamixer is turned all the way up, but no sound, i checked under GEneral settings, and its set as:

Audio Output device: /dev/dsp

and mixer device: /dev/mixer

and mixer control: master (tryed PCM with out any changes there)

a bit more info on my system:

Code:
root@mythtv:~# lspci

the card is a audigry 2 card, which also seems to be seen under startup: from dmesg:
Code:
Audigy2 value:Special config.

under alsamixer it says:

As strange as it wounds I seem to be having the same problem. Just did a simple restart because I fixed a command for my remote in my lircrc file and now I have no sound. I even when back and undid the change in lircrc (like that effects sound  ) and still nothing.

Here is where it gets interesting. Sound in Xine still seems to work for 5.1 but videos recorded in stereo do not. Now the really weird stuff. I can make changes, mute channels, etc. in alsamixer and it has absolutely no effect on audio output. I'm absolutely stumped! I can mute the spdif output while playing a 5.1 DVD and still get sound...WTF!!!

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful. Seeing as I didn't really change anything, I don't even know where to begin looking.

I just started having this problem too, right after messing with some Xine stuff to watch DVDs. The DVD audio works fine, but no matter what I do, I don't get sound out of Myth recorded stuff.

Ok, this is really weird. I started playing a DVD, which is the only way I can get audio out of my box now, and then went into alsamixer (as root) and muted / turned down everything to 0 and there was absolutely no change to the audio. Alsamixer didn't do a thing.

In hindsight I think I might have accidentally run alsaconf instead of alsactl at some point. I wonder if that could have somehow hosed things up after a reboot?

Another interesting observation that may or may not be related is that I can play xvid files and get audio but I don't get video and then after about 10 seconds it locks up the frontend. I also tried playing a home movie in xine (no AC3 audio track like the others) and it didn't have audio but the video worked fine.

I'm admitting defeat for the night and going to bed. I'd finally got this stupid box working and now this.....

All right. It looks like I am the third person to encounter this problem. The only difference is that I am absolutely positive I did not change anything. I had the machine in my basement and decided to take it upstairs to my living room. I shut down the machine, unhooked cables, and then brought everything (keyboard, mouse, tv-out cable, etc.) upstairs. When I turned everything on I had no sound. I'm a bit of a linux newb so I'm not sure what configuration files to look into. But I did notice one thing, when I go to shut down the machine it says something like "shutting down sound card -- no audio detected" or something like that.

Also, I am running R5D1.

I honestly forget how I fixed this problem, but my sound works again, but my mythbox locks up due to the RT61+SMP bug, but before the sound fiasco, I didn't have a problem =/

I found this thread:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 8&start=15

and thought it might contain my answer. But I added
include /etc/modprobe.d
to my modprobe.conf file a rebooted with no luck.
alsaconf detects my onboard sound as snd-mpu401
But after running it I still do not have sound. Curiously, in a Bash prompt if I hit backspace too many times an annoying beep comes out of the sound card. So I know the hardware works. But I can't even play a simple WAV file.

I am at a loss. After messing around with it for a few hours last night I gave up. This morning I booted it up and the sound works fine. Go figure.
In alsaconfig it detects a new device:
inetl8x0 Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Control

I looked at my modprobe.conf and nothing has changed. I sort of hope this happens again so I can figure it out.

In the course of trying to fix my sound issues I got to the point that I pretty much couldn't do anything with my box. After just 20 seconds or so of video (TV, DVD, anything) xorg would lock up (99%+ cpu usage in top). The only way I could get my box back was with a kill -9 of the xorg process.

As my box was pretty much an expensive paperweight I did a complete re-install only to have the exact same problems. I've now moved to another Myth distribution and these problems have gone away. I do have a few new problems but none of them are hard locks of xorg.

I really hope something gets figured out as I'd like to come back to Knoppmyth.

My sound just went out... Was working yesterday, not today....? R5E50

Just tested mythmusic, the sound works for that.... As Thelma would say "Something is Hinky Scoob".

I too lost sound/ yesterday after it had been working for a few days with live and recorded tv. Mythmusic still works.

This gives me out of sync audio:
# v4l2-ctl -c mute=0
but keeps playing after exiting live tv, also doesn't survive reboot.

I reran alsaconf and then alsamixer using same options that worked earlier, but still no audio. No audio in files exported to winxp.

I have another strange sound problem. When I plug my mythbox into my regular AV setup with an RCA-to-1/8" cable, no sound at all and my remote stops working. When I unplug the cable and replace it with a pair of headphones, my remote starts working again and the sound comes back. Sounds impossible, but it is happening.

EDIT: I stand corrected, the remote still acts screwy. But the rest remains true. Headphones work, but plugging in a normal RCA-to-1/8" cable doesn't work. To test the cable though, I unplugged it from my mythbox and plugged it into my iPod and it worked fine. So it's not my AV setup hooked up correctly, it's my Mythbox messing with me, somehow able to tell if I am using headphones or not.
